Suspected terrorists belonging to the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) launched a brutal attack on Buni Yadi, a community in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State. During the assault, they killed two children of a Police Inspector, Mallam Jibril Mohammed, before setting their bodies and family home on fire.
The attack reportedly happened around 1:00 am on Monday in the Shuwari Baban Layi area of the town, according to credible intelligence sources. The attackers, believed to have infiltrated the town under the cover of darkness, stormed the Inspector’s residence and opened fire.
A resident who spoke anonymously said the gunmen deliberately targeted Inspector Mohammed’s house, firing shots randomly to create panic before focusing on the officer’s family.
Security sources confirmed that after killing the two children, the terrorists set the entire house ablaze before making their escape into the night.
Pulsewireng learned that shortly after the incident, troops from the 27 Task Force Brigade, Sector 2 of Operation HADIN KAI, were alerted and quickly moved to the scene.
However, by the time the soldiers arrived, the terrorists had already fled, abandoning their bicycles as they escaped into the surrounding bush. Security forces have since launched a manhunt to track down the perpetrators.
