Ex-Women’s Minister Grilled Over N138m

Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, over alleged financial misconduct linked to her time in office. The former minister is accused of diverting and mismanaging public funds amounting to N138,413,253.89.

According to EFCC insiders who spoke to Pulsewireng, Ohanenye arrived at the commission’s headquarters around 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Investigators grilled her over her alleged role in manipulating the ministry’s 2023 budget funds for personal gain.

The allegations center around the “P-Bat Cares for Women” initiative, a program meant to support Nigerian women. Instead, EFCC sources claim Ohanenye funneled part of the funds into her private accounts, breaching procurement laws in the process.

As of Thursday evening, Ohanenye was still undergoing questioning. Investigators had not yet granted her administrative bail, indicating that the interrogation could extend further.

It would be recalled that President Bola Tinubu dismissed Ohanenye in October 2024. Her removal was part of a broader cabinet shakeup that also saw the exit of the Tourism Minister, Lola Ade-John; Education Minister, Tahir Mamman; Minister of State for Housing, Abdullahi Gwarzo; and Youth Development Minister, Jamila Ibrahim.

The EFCC’s ongoing probe signals that the anti-corruption agency is tightening its grip on financial crimes, especially involving public officials who once held powerful positions in government.
