Lagos First Lady Promotes Clean Cooking

Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has called for the adoption of clean cooking methods to protect the environment and improve public health. She made this appeal during the Boy Child Empowerment Workshop held in Lagos.

The workshop, themed ‘Empowering the Boy Child to be a Well-Rounded Individual for the Future,’ was designed to teach boys essential life skills, including culinary skills using clean cooking solutions.

The event received support from IBILE Oil and Gas Corporation (IOGC), the state-owned energy company. IOGC provided clean cooking resources and promoted the use of cooking gas during the workshop’s training sessions.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Sanwo-Olu highlighted the need for cleaner energy in Nigerian households. “By introducing these young boys to clean cooking with gas, we’re teaching culinary skills and demonstrating how cleaner energy improves health by reducing indoor air pollution, enhances safety by eliminating fire hazards, and protects our environment by lowering carbon emissions,” she said.

The Sustainability Team Lead at IOGC, Mrs. Abiola Ibine, who represented the company’s Managing Director, Ms. Doyin Akinyanju, reaffirmed IOGC’s commitment to clean energy awareness. She said introducing children to clean cooking early is a step toward a healthier and safer future.

Mrs. Ibine also pointed out that millions of deaths worldwide are linked to household air pollution from firewood and charcoal use. She stressed the importance of promoting cooking gas as a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable alternative for Nigerian families.
