Ademola Adeleke, has met with traditional rulers across the state to discuss the ongoing crisis surrounding local government administration. The meeting, held as part of his wider consultations with key stakeholders, aimed to provide updates and seek royal support for peace.
During the meeting, Adeleke urged the monarchs to help educate their communities about the true facts of the situation. He warned against the spread of fake news, saying misinformation could worsen the crisis and harm Osun State’s stability.
The governor specifically dismissed reports claiming that the Court of Appeal in Akure had reinstated the sacked local government chairmen and councillors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2022. He described such reports as entirely false.
Adeleke maintained that the affected APC officials remain sacked based on a Federal High Court ruling delivered in October 2022. He insisted that those currently occupying local government offices illegally would be removed through lawful means.
He also clarified that his administration had no role in the sack of the APC officials, explaining that the judgment that removed them was issued while his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, was still governor.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, condemned the violence linked to the crisis. The monarch called for peace from all sides, emphasizing that Osun is known for its peaceful nature — a reputation the state must protect at all costs.
