The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, gave the advice during an orientation program held at the Ministry of Women Affairs auditorium in Port Harcourt. The event was organized to officially welcome and guide the new employees.
Dr. Oreh highlighted that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s vision for improving the state’s healthcare system depends heavily on the dedication and performance of these new workers. She urged them to see their selection as a privilege, noting that thousands applied but only a few were chosen.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Mekele Igwe, praised the governor for creating job opportunities in the health sector. He encouraged the new staff to show gratitude by working hard to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.
In his speech, the Chief Medical Director of the Rivers State Hospital Management Board, Dr. Bright Ogbonda, revealed that over 27,000 people applied for the available positions. He said the selection process was competitive and based strictly on merit.
Dr. Ogbonda also thanked Governor Fubara for approving the upgrade of zonal hospitals and for greenlighting the purchase of new medical equipment for all general hospitals in Rivers State.
