Bayelsa Police Recover Kidnappers’ Speed Boats

Bayelsa State Police Command’s Operation Puff Adder has recovered the speed boats used by kidnappers who abducted two Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) staff members. The victims, Akari Loveday and Emmanuel Nathan Ogbuku, were rescued on Sunday, March 9, 2025, after being kidnapped two days earlier while traveling to Ayakoro in Ogbia Local Government Area.

State Commissioner of Police, Alonyenu Francis Idu, credited the successful operation to Community Intelligence and Security Drone Technology, which helped track the kidnappers. He assured the public that the police are committed to tackling crime across the state.

CP Idu commended CSP Chris Nwaogbo and his team for their bravery, noting they spent three days searching through forests, creeks, and rivers to locate the abducted men. The rescue mission covered Onuebum-Eboi Forest, Otuogidi Forests, and the Ayakoro Creek.

The operation also involved the State Police Drone Unit, Ability Security Services (a private drone company), and the Nigerian Navy (NNS Soroh), which provided river patrol support with gunboats. Their joint efforts ensured the safe rescue of the victims.

Barr. Rex-Ogbuku Jude, brother of the NDDC Managing Director, praised the police for their swift action, stating that the entire community erupted in celebration upon the victims’ return. “When they were rescued, our elders and youths prayed for the policemen,” he added.

The Bayelsa Police Command has vowed to continue using advanced security strategies to combat criminal activities in the region, ensuring the safety of residents and visitors alike.
