Court Stops FCCPC from Acting Against MultiChoice

The Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) from taking any administrative action against MultiChoice Nigeria Limited over its recent price hike on DStv and GOtv.

Justice James Omotosho granted the order on Wednesday after an ex parte motion was filed by MultiChoice’s lawyer, Moyosore J. Onigbanjo (SAN). The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/379/2025, seeks to prevent FCCPC from intervening in the price adjustments.

The FCCPC had earlier summoned MultiChoice Nigeria to explain the reasons for the price increase, raising concerns over possible market dominance abuse and anti-competitive practices in the pay-TV industry.

The regulatory body had directed MultiChoice’s CEO to appear for an investigative hearing on February 27, 2025, warning that failure to justify the hike could lead to sanctions.

The commission had also emphasized that it would not tolerate unfair pricing practices, stating that consumer protection laws must be upheld in the sector.

With the court’s ruling, FCCPC is temporarily barred from taking further action, but the legal battle over pay-TV pricing in Nigeria is far from over.
