Governor Peter Mbah’s plan to transform the state’s healthcare sector and position it as a medical tourism hub.
Speaking on the significance of the program, the trained professionals expressed gratitude to the governor, describing the experience as a major step toward enhancing healthcare delivery in the state. They pledged to apply their knowledge to improve patient care and overall hospital management.
Governor Mbah, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, received the first batch of trained health workers on Wednesday. He emphasized that strengthening the healthcare system is a top priority of his administration and a critical part of his long-term development strategy.
“Our goal is to build institutions that will outlive leaders,” Onyia stated. “We are ensuring that management is not just maintaining the status quo but driving a transformative process that improves service delivery.”
He further stressed the government’s commitment to accountability, urging the trained professionals to uphold high standards. “We are holding all of you to very high expectations. This investment must translate into better patient experiences in our hospitals,” he said.
Dr. Yomi Jaye, the governor’s special adviser on Health Matters, added that the University of Washington had officially certified the trainees. He reaffirmed that this initiative is part of a broader plan to enhance capacity building in Enugu’s health sector.
