Eha-Amufu Leaders Deny Mass Killings Claims

Eha-Amufu have dismissed viral reports of recent mass killings and arson in the area, labeling them as misinformation. Speaking to journalists on a fact-finding mission, they acknowledged past attacks but insisted that no such large-scale violence occurred in recent weeks.

Donatus Odoh, President-General of Mgbuji Eha-Amufu, confirmed that herders had launched deadly attacks on the community before Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, particularly in 2022. However, he refuted claims of a recent massacre, saying, “I do not know where people are getting their information from. Nothing happened here in Mgbuji, Eha-Amufu, two weeks ago.”

Odoh clarified that the only known incident involved a man named Igwurube Ndubuisi Donatus, who was killed in another autonomous community in February. He admitted not having full details but maintained that the widely circulated reports of 100 or 200 deaths were unfounded.

Addressing claims about a rape victim’s death, Odoh stated that the woman had received medical care with government support and was alive. “I saw a woman being driven on a bike returning from the market the other day. She was healthy,” he emphasized.

Another community leader, Chief Richard Ogenyi, acknowledged that security had improved significantly since the 2022 attacks. He credited state and local government interventions for restoring relative stability in the area.

Despite these reassurances, tensions remain high as conflicting narratives about the situation spread. Local authorities continue to monitor security developments to prevent any resurgence of violence.
