Schneider Electric has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable urban development in Nigeria through its partnership with Eko Atlantic City. The company is providing smart, energy-efficient solutions to power the ambitious project, positioning it as a model for future cities in Africa.
Ajibola Akindele, Schneider Electric Nigeria’s country president, described the collaboration as a “game-changer for Nigeria.” He highlighted that Schneider’s advanced energy solutions, including customized protection relays and real-time monitoring systems, would enhance power efficiency and ensure a stable power supply.
Eko Atlantic City, situated in the heart of Lagos, aims to become a dynamic hub for commerce and residence. Designed to accommodate over 300,000 residents and attract around 250,000 daily commuters, the city is set to redefine urban living in Nigeria.
Joanna Fabikun, Head of Corporate Communications at Eko Atlantic City, emphasized the project’s focus on sustainability and growth. “Eko Atlantic City represents the future of urban living in Nigeria. With Schneider Electric and Eko Utilities Nigeria Limited, we are building a city that prioritizes innovation, sustainability, and long-term economic growth,” she stated.
The partnership aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 11, focusing on sustainable cities and communities. Thousands of trees have been planted to combat climate change, while smart energy solutions aim to create a greener, more resilient Lagos.
As the city enters its fifth development phase, Schneider Electric, through Eko Utilities Nigeria Limited, is working to maintain a 99% electricity availability rate. An independent power generation facility capable of scaling from 11kV to 132kV is also underway, further cementing the city’s commitment to sustainable progress.
