PDP Condemns Land Revocation, Alleges Suppression

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) administration for revoking its land rights for its national secretariats in Abuja. The party claims the move is a deliberate attempt to silence opposition voices.

Hon. Debo Ologunagba, PDP’s national publicity secretary, condemned the action, revealing that the revoked rights include the Wadata Plaza in Wuse Zone 5 and the party’s permanent site under construction in the Central Area. He described the decision as “a threat to democracy” and a step toward “totalitarianism.”

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, justified the revocation, stating that the PDP failed to pay annual ground rents on the properties for 20 years, from January 2006 to January 2025. This was confirmed in a letter signed by Chijioke Nwankwoeze, the director of Land Administration, on behalf of the minister.

The letter, titled “Notice Of Revocation Of Right Of Occupancy,” emphasized that the PDP’s failure to comply with payment demands, despite several public notices since 2023, led to the decision. The properties have now reverted to the FCT Administration.

Reacting to the development, Ologunagba accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of using state power to suppress opposition. He insisted that both the permanent site and Wadata Plaza’s revocations were aimed at weakening the PDP’s political influence.

The PDP National Working Committee (NWC) is reportedly reviewing the situation and has promised to issue a comprehensive response. The party maintains that this action undermines the principles of democracy in Nigeria.
