The Nollywood industry has been hit with yet another tragic loss following the passing of veteran actress Nkechi Nweje. She died on Friday at the age of 60 after a brief illness.
Popular movie producer Stanley Ajemba, known as Stanley Ontop, confirmed the heartbreaking news on Saturday. Sharing her photo on Instagram, he expressed his disbelief, writing, “Nollywood in tears as we lost one of our vibrant actresses, @nkechi.nweje. Couldn’t post since morning because it felt like a dream. Rest in peace, ma’am.”
Nweje, widely recognized for her motherly roles in Nollywood films, left an indelible mark on the industry. Her emotional performances and dedication to her craft earned her admiration from both fans and colleagues.
Rita Edochie, another Nollywood veteran, also mourned her passing, posting a candlelight image on Instagram. She captioned it, “This world is really not our home,” expressing the deep sorrow felt across the industry.
Other Nollywood stars, including Destiny Etiko and Anita Joseph, have paid tribute, remembering Nweje for her kindness and contribution to the film industry.
She is survived by her husband and six children. May her soul rest in peace.
