Chairman, Comrade Daboikiabo Z Warmate, and National Secretary, Alhaji Tasiu Makila Muhammad, CPDPL emphasized that the Supreme Court upheld Anyanwu’s position. The ruling also reinforced the authority of political parties in managing their internal affairs, including determining their officials and candidates without court interference.
The group accused PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Olunulagba, of misleading the public by citing a National Working Committee (NWC) resolution. CPDPL argued that this resolution contradicts the Supreme Court’s verdict and should not be used to create confusion within the party.
Additionally, CPDPL refuted claims that Anyanwu resigned from his position when he contested the Imo State governorship election in 2023. They argued that the PDP Constitution’s Section 47(5) only states that an official “may” resign before contesting an election, meaning resignation is not mandatory.
“We want to clarify that Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu does not need to resign before contesting any election, in line with Section 47(5),” the statement read. The group urged all PDP members to support Anyanwu in strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
CPDPL further reiterated its commitment to ensuring party unity and warned against internal conflicts that could weaken the PDP’s chances in future elections. The group called for collaboration among party leaders to maintain stability and prepare for upcoming political challenges.
