The National Coordinator of the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG), Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim, has called on two prominent Islamic scholars of Ilorin descent—Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Al-Ilory and the Mufti of Ilorin, Sheikh Sulaiman Faruq Onikijipa—to cease their public disputes on social media.
Ibrahim emphasized that their disagreements should be resolved amicably rather than through accusations and counter-accusations online. He expressed concern over the embarrassment their conflict has caused within the Muslim community and warned of potential disruptions to public peace in Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State.
Citing the Holy Qur’an (Chapter 2, Verse 44), Ibrahim reminded the scholars that religious leaders must uphold moral integrity and avoid actions contrary to Islamic teachings. He further stressed that their public feud was especially inappropriate during the holy month of Ramadan, a time for forgiveness and reflection.
