By Khalifah Mojeed Alawaye, has revealed that his sermons against alcohol, traditional sacrifices, and ritual killings may have led to the recent attack on his Ramadan tafseer gathering at Imam Compound, Akesan Market, Oyo.
Masked gunmen stormed the venue on March 24, attacking elderly attendees and women. Alawaye stated that some clerics and politicians opposed his teachings and calls for Oyo to demand a governorship seat.
The assailants, unable to locate Alawaye, threatened his brother and looted valuables before being confronted by local youths. Several people sustained injuries, and the incident was reported to the police, who later secured the venue for the cleric to continue his sermon.
Oyo Global Forum chairman Taiwo Adebayo condemned the attack, urging authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.
