Ojudu Urges Tinubu to Assemble a Diverse Team for National Progress

Former presidential aide and Senator, Babafemi Ojudu, has called on President Bola Tinubu to form a government that reflects Nigeria’s diversity, urging him to address pressing challenges faced by ordinary citizens.

In a statement from Ado-Ekiti on Saturday, Ojudu extended his wishes on Tinubu’s 73rd birthday while also using the occasion to voice concerns about the nation’s current state.

Recalling their shared history in the fight for democracy, Ojudu highlighted Tinubu’s past leadership qualities, including his decision-making skills, conflict resolution abilities, and commitment to national unity. He emphasized that despite the toll of age, Tinubu could still rekindle his leadership strength and compassion.

“Nigeria is in distress. Our people are hurting—from hunger and inflation to insecurity and disillusionment. The cries of the people grow louder each day. The burden of leadership is now fully on your shoulders,” Ojudu stated.

He advised the president to move beyond sycophants and self-seekers, urging him to implement bold and transformative policies. He pointed to the works of past Nigerian leaders like Chief Obafemi Awolowo, suggesting that Tinubu could draw inspiration from their policies to restore hope in the country.

Ojudu further stressed the need for the president to harness the talents and energies of Nigerians both at home and abroad, asserting that the country is full of capable individuals who lack proper coordination and purpose.

He also cautioned against prioritizing political survival over governance, stating, “For most Nigerians, the next meal, the next hospital bill, the next school fee, and the next rent are the real and urgent priorities.”

Encouraging a more inclusive leadership approach, Ojudu said, “Lagos is not Yoruba. Lagos is not Nigeria. The greatness of our country lies in its diversity. Every corner of this land has produced men and women of character, competence, and capacity.” He urged Tinubu to emulate former presidents Ibrahim Babangida and Olusegun Obasanjo, who built governments that reflected national diversity.

Calling for a renewed sense of purpose, Ojudu appealed to Tinubu to seize the moment and cement his legacy as a selfless leader. “Let this birthday be a turning point—a Saul-to-Paul moment. Lead with justice. Govern with empathy. Act with urgency. And above all, serve with humility,” he concluded.
