Wellesley Bolt, father of eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt, has passed away at the age of 68.
According to UK Independent, Wellesley died on Monday in Jamaica after battling a prolonged illness.
He was known for running a small grocery store with his wife, Jennifer, and maintaining a private life despite his son’s global fame.
Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness expressed his condolences, calling Wellesley “a strong, quiet force” behind one of the country’s greatest athletes.
“His presence, support, and guidance helped shape a legacy that continues to inspire the world,” Holness wrote on social media.
Wellesley is survived by his wife Jennifer and three children, including Usain, Sadiki, and Christine Bolt-Hylton.
