Barrios’ Late Strike Ends Atlético’s Winless Streak

Pablo Barrios delivered a last-gasp winner as Atlético Madrid edged Sevilla 2-1 on Sunday, snapping their six-game winless streak across all competitions.

After being knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid and eliminated from the Copa del Rey by Barcelona, Atlético reignited their slim LaLiga title hopes following setbacks for Real and Barca on Saturday.

Diego Simeone’s men now sit on 60 points, just three behind Real Madrid, who suffered a 2-1 defeat to Valencia, while Barcelona, still leading with 67 points, were held 1-1 by Real Betis. Sevilla remain in 11th place with 36 points.

Sevilla took an early lead through Lucien Agoume, but Atlético quickly responded as Julián Álvarez converted a penalty in the 25th minute. The match then turned into a tense midfield battle with few clear chances.

Just when it seemed destined for a draw, Barrios produced a brilliant solo run and fired a thunderous strike from the edge of the box into the bottom corner, sealing a crucial victory for Atlético.
