Abuja, Nigeria – The Association of Ebonyi Indigenes Socio-Cultural in the Diaspora (AEISCID) has strongly criticized Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi of Ebonyi North Senatorial District, accusing him of bringing shame to Ebonyi people through his involvement in the ongoing controversy between suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, AEISCID President, Ambassador Paschal Oluchukwu, condemned Nwebonyi’s public outbursts and his defense of Akpabio, amid allegations of sexual harassment leveled against the Senate President.
“His utterances, conduct, and actions are totally un-parliamentary, unwholesome, and unbecoming of a legislator by every known standard,” Oluchukwu stated.
The group faulted Nwebonyi for verbally attacking critics of the Senate President, including former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, instead of addressing pressing legislative matters.
“Nwebonyi was elected to make laws and bring dividends of democracy to his constituents, not to serve as an ‘attack dog’ for Senate leadership,” the statement read.
AEISCID further described Nwebonyi’s actions as “disgraceful”, suggesting that he had abandoned his legislative duties to play political errand-boy for the Senate leadership.
Amid speculations that Nwebonyi may be eyeing the Ebonyi governorship seat in 2027, AEISCID said his recent behavior had already disqualified him from such aspirations.
“Ebonyi cannot continually be governed by the worst among us even in the guise of equity,” Oluchukwu warned.
The group also urged the people of Ebonyi North to consider a recall process if the senator continues his “disgraceful expedition” in defense of the Senate President.
“Enough should be enough already,” AEISCID declared.
