Abducted Catholic Priest Regains Freedom in Kaduna

Just a day after his abduction, Rev. Fr. Ibrahim Amos, a Catholic priest of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, has been freed unharmed in Kaduna State.

The priest was taken by unknown gunmen on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from his residence at St. Gerald Quasi Parish, Kurmin Risga, located in Kauru Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Friday, Rev. Fr. Jacob Shanet, Chancellor of the Diocese, confirmed Fr. Amos’s release, though he provided no details on how the priest regained his freedom.

“With joy and gratitude to God Almighty, we write to announce the release of Rev. Fr. Ibrahim Amos… Fr. Amos returned unharmed on Thursday, 24th April 2025,” Shanet stated.

While the circumstances of the release remain unclear, Shanet acknowledged the outpouring of support from across Nigeria.

“The concern shown by people of goodwill, from social media users to faith communities and security agencies—including local vigilantes, the police, and the DSS—was overwhelming,” he said.

He extended heartfelt thanks to everyone who stood in solidarity with the church, adding a prayer for others still in captivity.

“May the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of priests, and all the angels, intercede for those in captivity and bring them home safe,” he said.
