By English actor and comedian Russell Brand, 49, has been charged with rape, indecent assault, and sexual assault concerning four separate women between 1999 and 2005. The charges follow a detailed investigation triggered by serious allegations reported by the Sunday Times, the Times, and Channel 4’s Dispatches in September 2023.
The comedian, previously outspoken in denying the claims, had called the allegations “very, very hurtful” when they first surfaced. He was interviewed multiple times by police as part of the ongoing investigation.
Brand’s legal team has not issued a new statement following the charges.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy from the Metropolitan Police, who is overseeing the investigation, shared that the women making the reports are being supported by specially trained officers. He emphasized that the investigation remains open and encouraged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
“The Met’s investigation remains open, and detectives ask anyone who has been affected by this case, or anyone who has any information, to come forward and speak with police,” Furphy added.
