Dozens of women in Akwa Ibom took to the streets of Uyo to express outrage over Senator Natasha Akpoti’s sexual harassment allegation against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The protesting women, armed with placards bearing various messages, blocked major roads in the state capital for hours, accusing Akpoti of launching a politically motivated smear campaign against the Senate President.
Chanting solidarity songs like “Natasha, we no go gree, the insult is too much, we no go gree,” the women warned the Kogi senator to desist from further attacks on Akpabio, saying her allegations were aimed at tarnishing the reputation of Nigeria’s number three citizen.
The demonstration comes amidst growing political tension surrounding the allegation, which Akpabio’s supporters have dismissed as baseless.
