Akwuegbu Calls for Musa, Iheanacho Recall

Former Nigerian striker Benedict Akwuegbu has urged the national team to bring back Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Iheanacho, currently on loan at Middlesbrough from Sevilla, has been left out of the Super Eagles squad, while Musa has been performing well since rejoining Kano Pillars from Turkish club Sivasspor.

Speaking from London, Akwuegbu emphasized that both players’ experience is crucial for Nigeria’s qualification. “Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho should be recalled to the Super Eagles. They are experienced and in good form at the moment for their respective clubs,” he said.

He highlighted Musa’s strong performances in the Nigerian Premier Football League, stating that his ability to play at a high level despite the league’s physicality proves his readiness for international duty.

“They should be invited for the next World Cup qualifiers. They still have a role to play in the Super Eagles’ campaign,” Akwuegbu stressed.

Confident in Nigeria’s chances, he added, “We can win three of the remaining four games. With Musa and Iheanacho in the team, I strongly believe the Super Eagles will be at the World Cup in 2026.”
