Oba Abimbola Owoade, has called on Nigerians to unite against “blood guzzlers” and enemies of the state who find comfort in the mindless killing of innocent citizens.
In his Easter message, the monarch condemned the spate of violence across some communities and emphasized the urgent need to rescue the nation from the grip of “insanity and barbarism.”
“We must stand together,” Oba Owoade declared. “Our shared strength can reclaim the destiny of this country from those who seek to destroy it.”
The traditional ruler urged Nigerians never to surrender the values of life’s sanctity and human dignity to what he described as “ungodly ideologies.” He stressed that national development is impossible without peace and stability.
Drawing inspiration from the Easter story, Oba Owoade said the ultimate message of the season is love—genuine, sacrificial love that places others above self.
“It was love that took Jesus to the cross,” he said. “If His heart had not been overflowing with love, He would not have made that sacrifice.”
He encouraged Nigerians to embrace a love that unshackles and liberates, adding, “Let Christians inspire non-Christians with their display of this love. It’s the only way to overcome the cycle of violence.”
The Alaafin also said true love could transform Nigeria—rebuilding broken relationships, improving governance, and ushering in a new era of accountability and compassion in leadership.
“Easter should not just be a time for celebration,” he cautioned. “It must be a time for reflection—on service, on sacrifice, and on how we can heal our nation.”
He concluded by urging all citizens to live lives that honor God and uplift humanity.
“When we obey the laws, serve with humility, and love our neighbors, then we have truly captured the spirit of Easter,” he said.
