AMAC Chairman Backs Women Inclusion

The chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, has pledged to increase the participation of women in governance, as part of his administration’s commitment to gender equity.

Maikalangu made the promise in Abuja while marking International Women’s Day, emphasizing that empowering women will remain a top priority in his government moving forward.

He highlighted that several women already hold key positions in his cabinet, and many heads of departments within the council are also women. He said these appointments reflect his belief in women’s leadership abilities.

In addition to cabinet roles, Maikalangu revealed that women currently serve as Special Adviser for Women Affairs, Consultant on Development Partners and ICT, and as Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants in various areas.

Speaking on the significance of International Women’s Day, which has been celebrated globally since 1911, Maikalangu said the day recognizes women’s achievements in education, healthcare, sports, entrepreneurship, and leadership.

However, he noted that despite these advancements, many women still face violence and discrimination, and called for collective action to break these barriers and ensure every woman, regardless of background, has the chance to reach her full potential.
