Anambra Monarch Sues Town Leaders for Assault

The traditional ruler of Nimo Community in Anambra State, Owelle Maximus Ike Oliobi, has taken two leaders of his town union to court, accusing them of physically assaulting him and his cabinet members.

The two accused leaders, identified as 35-year-old Chukwuemeka Ezeaputa and 39-year-old Chigbo Aniedobe, were arraigned on Thursday before Magistrate Obiora Nwajiaku at Abagana Magistrate Court 3. Ezeaputa currently serves as the youth provost, while Aniedobe is the first President-General of the Nimo Town Development Union.

According to the three-count charge filed under case number ANJ/21c/2025, both men, along with others still at large, allegedly conspired to assault the monarch by pushing and shoving him during a public gathering.

The incident reportedly took place on February 20, 2025, at the funeral ceremony of the wife of Chief Bobby Chinedu-Moore, SAN. The defendants are also accused of threatening to “deal with” the traditional ruler and his cabinet members during the event.

In court, the monarch’s legal team insisted that such behavior toward a traditional ruler was not only disrespectful but also unlawful, calling for justice to serve as a deterrent to others.

The case has been adjourned for further hearing, while the accused were granted bail under strict conditions.
