Anthony Joshua has sustained an undisclosed injury to the upper half of his body, delaying his return to training and pushing back his next fight until late summer. The injury has left him unable to punch properly, forcing an eight-week recovery period.
Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed the setback but refused to reveal specifics, stating only that it’s “nothing major” but enough to keep Joshua out of full training for now. With a potential fight camp start date in April or May, his next bout is expected toward the end of summer.
A rematch with Daniel Dubois had been targeted for February, but Joshua’s physical condition prevented it from happening. Hearn previously mentioned that “niggles” had already impacted his ability to return to the ring earlier this year.
Joshua had been in top form before his shocking defeat to Dubois. After consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk, he built a four-fight winning streak, including stoppage victories over Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou, showcasing his old aggressive style.
Despite entering the Dubois fight as the favorite, his quest for a third heavyweight world title was derailed when he was knocked out in the fifth round. The unexpected loss has fueled his desire for redemption.
With his return now delayed, Joshua’s next opponent remains uncertain. A highly anticipated showdown with Tyson Fury or a rematch with Dubois remains on the table, while other contenders like Joseph Parker, Deontay Wilder, and Martin Bakole are still in the mix.
