Fouad Oki, has warned that the ongoing speakership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly could escalate into the worst legislative crisis in Nigeria if not quickly resolved.
Speaking on Politics Today on Pulsewireng, Oki compared the situation to recent political turmoil in Rivers, Osun, and Kano states, warning that Lagos could face an even bigger crisis.
The controversy deepened on Monday when armed security officers from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) stormed the Assembly complex, temporarily preventing Speaker Mojisola Meranda from entering.
After finally gaining access, Meranda presided over plenary but became emotional as lawmakers passed a vote of confidence in her leadership.
The crisis began after the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, leading to weeks of political tension within the Lagos legislature.
With no resolution in sight, concerns are growing over the stability of the state’s legislative arm and the broader implications for democracy in Nigeria.
