APC’s Ikoh Promises Jobs, Poverty Reduction in Abia

A governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Henry Ikoh, has pledged to tackle poverty and unemployment in Abia State if elected.

Ikoh, a former Minister of State for Science and Technology, assured residents that job creation would be his top priority, emphasizing that Abia deserves better than the “average performance” of the current administration.

Speaking to APC supporters and Muslim faithful during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, Ikoh lamented that Abia had suffered due to a lack of visionary leadership. He criticized past governments for neglecting industrialization and agricultural productivity, which, according to him, contributed to the state’s economic struggles.

He argued that decades of infrastructural decay had lowered people’s expectations of governance, promising a “quantum leap” in development that would position Abia as a model for other states.

“If given the opportunity to lead, I have a robust plan to reduce poverty and unemployment by establishing industries in various local governments based on their comparative advantage,” he stated.

Ikoh, who previously served as Abia’s Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, added that his administration would focus on economic growth rather than celebrating basic government responsibilities like roads and electricity. He urged Abians to embrace patriotism and religious harmony while reaffirming his commitment to equitable and fair leadership.
