Army Chief Calls for National Unity, Support

Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has urged Nigerians to support the military in its efforts to secure the nation. Speaking at a special Eid-el-Fitr luncheon for frontline troops in Port Harcourt, he highlighted the sacrifices made by soldiers in protecting national assets.

Represented by Major General Kevin Aligbe, Oluyede emphasized that the relative peace in regions like the Niger Delta is a result of the military’s dedication. He called on Nigerians to remember the troops and their families, especially during festive periods.

“This year’s Ramadan, coinciding with the Lenten season, reminds us of unity and mutual respect,” he said. “Eid-el-Fitr is a call to strengthen our bonds as one people, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or background.”

Major General Emmanuel Emekah, GOC of 6 Division, praised the troops for securing vital oil installations. He noted that their efforts have contributed to a steady increase in oil production, reinforcing the economic stability of the country.

Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, commended the Nigerian Army’s adaptability in handling security challenges. Represented by Professor Ibibia Worika, he stressed that addressing security threats requires both military force and strategic planning.

The event served as a moment to appreciate the dedication of Nigerian troops who, despite security and economic challenges, remain committed to protecting the nation.
