The Nigerian Army has successfully rescued 75 civilians from Boko Haram and ISWAP hideouts in the notorious Sambisa Forest in Borno State.
The Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Maj. Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, handed over the captives—including seven adult males, 34 women, and 34 children—at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri. He stated that the operation significantly weakened the insurgents by destroying their camps, logistics bases, and weapon caches.
During the operation, troops from the 21 Special Armoured Brigade and 199 Special Forces Battalion launched a major offensive under Operation Desert Sanity IV, clearing key terrorist enclaves in Ukuba, Njimia, Sabil Huda, Garin Falluja, and Gobara. The operation also targeted insurgent strongholds and disrupted their life-support systems.
Maj. Gen. Shuaibu emphasized that OPHK is committed to restoring normalcy in the North-East, ensuring the safety of civilians, and facilitating the return of governance and socio-economic activities. Beyond combat efforts, OPHK has also provided humanitarian assistance, including medical aid, vaccinations, food supplies, and psychological support to rescued civilians.
The rescued individuals were immediately provided with clothing, medical care, food, and temporary shelter pending full reintegration efforts. Hajiya Aisha Shettima, Director of Social Welfare at the Borno State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, received the captives on behalf of the state government, praising the military for its efforts.
The Army urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to enhance security efforts in the region.
