AUN, Isha Sesay Empower Chibok Survivors with Laptops

The American University of Nigeria (AUN) marked the 11th anniversary of the Chibok school abduction with a powerful gesture—donating laptops to 68 Chibok girls currently studying at the institution. The devices were gifted by renowned British journalist and humanitarian Isha Sesay, symbolizing resilience, hope, and a future powered by education.

During the event, held to commemorate the traumatic 2014 Boko Haram abduction, Ms. Sesay addressed the girls via Zoom, offering inspiration and encouragement.

“You are not defined by the darkness of your past,” she said. “These tools are keys to unlocking your potential—proof that the world believes in your future.”

AUN President, Dr. Dewayne Frazier, also delivered a heartfelt speech, urging the public to see the survivors not as victims, but as empowered individuals shaping their destinies.

“These are not the ‘Chibok girls’ frozen in time as victims. They are scholars, mothers, and leaders thriving within our AUN family,” he said. He described the abduction as an attack not on religion, but on the pursuit of education.

Dr. Frazier praised key supporters of the girls’ journey, including the Murtala Muhammed Foundation, Stephen Basari, Aisha Bugu, and other international advocates.

He concluded with a passionate vow:
“Life has no rearview mirror. The future is yours to shape. We will never cease fighting until every survivor is home, educated, and empowered.”

The ceremony stood as a beacon of progress, resilience, and a shared global commitment to ensuring that education triumphs over terror.
