AWCAA Expands to Nigeria to Fight Cancer

The African Women’s Cancer Awareness Association (AWCAA) has officially launched in Nigeria, marking a major step in cancer awareness, prevention, and treatment.

The event in Abuja brought together cancer survivors, health experts, advocates, and government officials, all committed to improving cancer care across the country.

Originally founded in the U.S. over two decades ago, AWCAA has led cancer awareness missions across Africa, donating mammogram machines and supporting treatment in Nigeria, Tanzania, Cameroon, Sierra Leone, and Sudan.

By establishing a presence in Nigeria, the association aims to bridge gaps in cancer education, screening, and access to life-saving treatment.

Dr. Zainab Bagudu, CEO of Medicaid Cancer Foundation and UICC President-elect, stressed the need for collaboration, stating, “AWCAA Nigeria has come at a crucial time when collective action is needed to lower cancer-related deaths. I wish the association success in its mission to save lives.”

The expansion is expected to strengthen cancer advocacy in Nigeria and provide critical resources to women battling the disease.
