Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of four staff members of the State Urban Water and Sewerage Corporation who lost their lives while on duty at the Gubi Dam Water Treatment Plant on Sunday.
The tragic incident occurred during a routine cleaning operation of the water supply system. Among those who died were a father and son — Ibrahim Musa and Abdulmalik Ibrahim Hamza — as well as Shu’aibu Hamza and Jamilu Yunusa.
“This devastating incident has cast a dark shadow over Bauchi State as we mourn the loss of these hardworking and committed public servants,” Governor Mohammed said in a statement delivered through his media aide, Mukhtar Gidado.
The governor emphasized the importance of their sacrifice, noting that they died while carrying out the critical task of ensuring clean water for the people of Bauchi. “Their legacy will continue to inspire all those who work tirelessly to build a better Bauchi State,” he added.
In his condolence message, the governor offered prayers for the families of the deceased, asking God to give them strength and comfort in this time of grief. He also prayed for the souls of the departed, hoping they find rest in Jannatul Firdaus.
In the wake of the tragedy, Governor Mohammed has called for urgent improvements in safety protocols across all public and industrial workplaces. He stressed the need for institutions to prioritize worker safety and pledged that the state would do everything possible to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The state government has also launched a full investigation into the cause of the incident and promised support for the bereaved families.
