The Albinism Association of Nigeria (AAN) in Bayelsa State has raised the alarm over a sharp rise in skin cancer cases among people with albinism. As the world marked the 2025 World Cancer Day with the theme “United by Unique,” the association joined global efforts to highlight the urgent need for action to save lives.
People with albinism face daily challenges, especially their heightened sensitivity to sunlight, which puts them at greater risk of developing skin cancer. Without proper protection and healthcare, many are suffering from preventable illnesses.
The AAN is calling for immediate intervention, including better access to sunscreen, protective clothing, and medical care, to address this growing health crisis.
