The coach described the victory as the perfect birthday gift from his players. “I give glory to God and thank the boys for this present. We created a lot of chances, but our finishing is still a concern,” he admitted after the match.
A crucial second-half strike from Kayode Oke sealed the win, ensuring Bendel Insurance claimed all three points. The result also means they have now taken four points off Enyimba this season, following their earlier draw in Aba.
Insurance started the game aggressively, pushing for an early breakthrough. Their task became easier in the 21st minute when Enyimba’s Innocent Gabriel was sent off for a reckless challenge on Oke as he raced towards goal.
Despite the numerical advantage, Insurance found it difficult to break down Enyimba’s deep defensive setup, missing several clear-cut chances before halftime.
Ultimately, Oke’s goal proved decisive, boosting Insurance’s position in the league and making it a birthday to remember for their head coach.
