Benue Police to Tackle Cultism in Schools

The Benue State Police Command has announced plans to launch awareness and educational programs on cultism and violence in schools as part of activities marking the maiden National Police Day on April 7, 2025.

Spokesperson of the Command, Catherine Anene, stated that the initiative aims to curb youth involvement in cultism and violent extremism. Additionally, the police will carry out sanitation exercises in communities and hold town hall meetings with stakeholders to discuss strategies for improving security in the state.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the event will also celebrate the contributions of police officers to society. “Activities for the celebration include medical outreach, awareness programs in schools, sanitation within communities, and a town hall meeting to engage stakeholders in discussions that will improve policing in Benue State,” Anene said.

The Commissioner of Police, Steve Yabanet, expressed gratitude to the Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, for his continued support of the police command. He also acknowledged the efforts of traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders, and youth groups in strengthening security efforts in the state.

The police believe that community involvement is essential to effective policing. By engaging with residents and educating young people, the command hopes to build stronger partnerships in the fight against crime.

National Police Day will serve as a platform to reinforce the role of law enforcement in society while fostering cooperation between the police and the public. The Benue Police Command encourages citizens to actively participate in the scheduled events.
