Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have released 11 out of the 14 hostages, including women and children, who were abducted from Shawaram, a fishing community in Doron Baga, Borno State.
The attack occurred on February 13, 2025, when the notorious terrorist commander, Tar, led the kidnapping operation, targeting fishermen and farmers in the region.
This follows a previous deadly attack on the Dumba community, where over 40 farmers, mostly fishermen, were killed by the terrorists. The militants have also imposed a ban on farming in the area, threatening to kill anyone who disobeys their orders.
Survivors from the Dumba attack stated that the terrorists had warned the local population not to engage in farming, maintaining that the ban remains in effect.
The continuing violence in the region is further destabilizing the already tense situation in northern Borno State.
As the situation escalates, concerns are growing over the safety of local residents and the ability of security forces to provide adequate protection in the area.
