Bolt drivers in Benin City, Edo State, staged a protest on Thursday over the killing of their colleague, Henry Osarodion Osemwhenkhai, allegedly by officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC). The drivers, under the banner of E-hailing Drivers, marched to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, demanding justice for Henry.
The protesters carried placards with messages like “Enough of the Brutality by Security Agencies,” “Bolt Drivers are not Slaves,” and “Justice for Henry.” They called on the police to investigate the incident and hold the accused NSCDC officers accountable.
According to Mr. Festus Nwabuzor, a Bolt driver who spoke on behalf of the group, Henry was attacked after dropping off a passenger at Castle Hotel along Limit Road, Off Sapele Road. A hotel lodger, who nearly hit Henry’s vehicle, allegedly assaulted him, leading to the tragic incident.
