Breaking: Reps in Rowdy Session Over Tinubu’s Emergency Rule Request in Rivers

The House of Representatives descended into a heated session on Thursday as lawmakers engaged in a shouting match over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s request for the ratification of the state of emergency declared in Rivers State.

Speaker Abbas Tajudeen had, upon resumption of plenary, read the president’s letter seeking the House’s approval for the emergency declaration. Following this, he directed the House Leader, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, to move a motion for a second reading to allow for debate.

However, tensions flared when lawmaker Obi Aguocha raised a point of order, insisting that the House must meet the constitutional quorum before proceeding. His intervention sparked an uproar, with lawmakers engaging in a shouting match. The Speaker repeatedly called for calm, but the session remained chaotic.

This marks the second time in 24 hours that lawmakers have clashed over the president’s request, reflecting deep divisions on the matter.
