Businessman Arraigned for $236,400 Visa Fraud

The Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) has arraigned businessman Jerald Lebechi and his firm, Monarch and Co. Limited, before the Federal High Court in Lagos over an alleged $236,400 passport and visa scam.

Prosecutors accused Lebechi of defrauding Venatus Onwughalu in 2021 by falsely promising to procure Grenada passports and visas. He also allegedly issued 15 dud cheques worth N150 million in 2024.

Lebechi pleaded not guilty. The court set April 14 for a bail hearing and remanded him at Ikoyi Custodial Centre.
