Court Halts PDP South-South Congress

A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has issued an interim order stopping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from holding its South-South zonal congress scheduled for February 22, 2025, in Calabar, Cross River State.

The order also restrains PDP’s national vice chairman (South-South), Chief Dan Orbih, from proceeding with the congress.

The ruling followed a lawsuit filed by two PDP members from Rivers State, Hon. Tony Ejiogu and Hon. Fred Nkor, who argued that the congress should not proceed.

Justice Godwin Obomanu granted the order after reviewing submissions from their counsel, Emeka Ojoko.

The court directed PDP officials, agents, and representatives to suspend all preparations for the congress.

Further hearings on the Motion on Notice for Interlocutory Injunction will determine the next steps for the party’s zonal leadership process.
