CPC Bloc Fires Back at Malami

Hon. Garba Datti Muhammad, has hit back at former Attorney General Abubakar Malami, warning him to stop attacking leaders of the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC). He said Malami had no standing to criticize key CPC figures who remain loyal to President Tinubu’s administration.

Datti, who also chairs the board of NESREA, emphasized that CPC loyalists are committed to the APC and will continue to back Tinubu, just as they supported former President Muhammadu Buhari. The response came after Malami questioned the loyalty and influence of CPC leaders following El-Rufai’s defection to the Social Democratic Party.

In a sharp rebuttal, Datti said Malami was wrong to belittle political veterans like Tanko Al-Makura and Aminu Bello Masari. “These are men who have won governorship elections twice. Malami, on the other hand, is a political lightweight with no electoral track record,” he stated. Datti reminded Malami that CPC didn’t win a single councillorship in Kebbi, his home state.

Datti also accused Malami and his allies of undermining Tinubu during the Buhari administration. “They formed a cabal that worked to sideline Tinubu. Even during the 2023 presidential race, they did everything to ensure he lost. Yet, he stayed loyal to the party,” he said.

According to Datti, Malami once attempted to run for governor of Kebbi but withdrew after sensing his lack of support. “He bought the APC forms but chickened out. Now, he wants to dictate to the same party that made him relevant?” Datti asked pointedly.

The CPC bloc, Datti insisted, is still strong within the APC, with members holding major positions, including the Speaker of the House of Representatives. He called on Malami to respect the legacy of the CPC and the sacrifices of its founding members.
