Cross River Gov Rejects Forum’s Statement

Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, has distanced himself from a statement reportedly issued by the Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum opposing President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

In a statement signed by his Press Secretary, Fred Abua Esq., Odey clarified that he was neither consulted nor asked for his opinion before the statement was released. He emphasized that the position of the forum does not represent the stance of the Cross River State Government.

“The position of the forum does not reflect the views of the Government of Cross River State, which fully aligns with the decision of Mr. President, taken in the best interest of national security, peace, and stability,” the statement read.

Odey stressed that protecting lives and property should be the priority of every responsible government. He noted that when circumstances require decisive action, such measures should be supported in the interest of democracy and national unity.

He further reiterated Cross River State’s commitment to upholding constitutional governance. He assured that the state would continue working with the Tinubu administration to ensure peace and security across the country.

The clarification comes amid debates surrounding the President’s suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the House of Assembly, a move that has sparked mixed reactions nationwide.
