CSOs Slam Zamfara Governor Over Alleged Minimum Wage Violation

Arc. Aliyu Umar Gusau, has accused Governor Dauda Lawal of failing to honour the tripartite agreement on the state’s minimum wage, calling it a betrayal of his oath of office.

In a statement on Thursday, Gusau alleged that civil servants were paid significantly less than the agreed wage structure. The tripartite committee had set the minimum salary for Grade Level 1/1 at ₦86,600 after deductions, with the highest salary for Grade Level 16/1 at ₦312,560. However, some senior officers reportedly received as little as ₦115,000, with other discrepancies in payments across different grade levels.

The coalition urged labour unions to shut down the state in protest, warning that salary discrepancies undermine the welfare of workers. It also criticized Governor Lawal for allegedly deceiving labour leaders and approving a “mischievous consequential adjustment.”

Gusau warned that wages are constitutionally protected and that the state legislature could take action against any violations.
