A U.S.-based diaspora group, Plateau State Association USA (PSA-USA), has strongly condemned the ongoing violence in Plateau State, describing the killings not as isolated clashes but as “deliberate acts of terror targeting peaceful communities with impunity.”
In a statement signed by its President, Dr. Bartholomew Shepkong, and made available to journalists in Abuja, the association declared that the time for mere rhetoric has passed.
“Enough is enough,” the group stated firmly. “Now is the time for justice.”
PSA-USA called for swift, concrete action from both the Nigerian government and the international community. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must respond with urgency and leadership,” the group urged. “Security agencies must fulfill their constitutional duty to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible.”
They also appealed to the global community to recognize the escalating violence in Plateau and Nigeria’s Middle Belt as a growing humanitarian and human rights crisis that deserves international attention.
“The memories of the innocent demand more than our grief—they demand our action,” the association said.
Reacting to the recent attacks in Zike Village (Bassa LGA) and multiple communities in Bokkos LGA, PSA-USA expressed heartbreak and outrage over what they described as “coordinated assaults” that led to the deaths of scores of innocent men, women, and children, the destruction of homes, and the displacement of entire families.
“These are not clashes,” the group stressed. “This is targeted, coordinated violence. It is ethnic cleansing by another name.”
PSA-USA also called on the government to support displaced persons and ensure their safe return to ancestral lands. “Violence must never be rewarded with land ownership,” they warned. “The right to heritage, home, and dignity must be restored and protected.”
The group took aim at the media, criticizing what they called a continued distortion of the facts.
“The Nigerian media must stop misrepresenting these atrocities as ‘farmer-herder clashes.’ That language enables impunity. This is not a conflict. This is terrorism.”
PSA-USA pledged to continue advocating for justice and peace in Plateau State and vowed to work with policymakers, diaspora leaders, humanitarian actors, and civil society to amplify the voices of victims and survivors.
