The heavy presence of Department of State Services (DSS) operatives at the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday was aimed at preventing an alleged comeback bid by the impeached Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.
A letter obtained by Pulsewireng reveals that the DSS was invited by the acting Clerk of the Assembly, Mr. ATB Ottun, on February 14, 2025, to ensure peace and order within the Assembly complex.
This clarification comes after earlier media reports suggested that the DSS and other security personnel had unlawfully entered the Assembly to disrupt the lawmakers’ duties.
Contrary to those reports, the security forces were deployed for preventive measures in light of the ongoing political tensions within the Assembly.
The situation has raised questions about the role of security forces in political matters, particularly in legislative proceedings.
As tensions continue to rise, the DSS’s involvement underscores the sensitive nature of the political situation at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
