DSS Threatens Legal Action Against Media Houses

The Department of State Services (DSS) has warned DAAR Communications Plc, owners of AIT, and Channels Television over reports alleging its operatives invaded the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday.

In a letter dated February 17, 2025, the DSS, through its lawyer, Chief Ayodeji Adedipe (SAN), demanded a retraction and public apologies, arguing that the reports misrepresented the agency.

The letter, titled “False, Defamatory and Malicious Publication Concerning the State Security Service (aka DSS) Regarding Their Presence at the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday, February 17, 2025,” insisted that the coverage damaged the DSS’s reputation.

The agency has given both media houses seven days to retract the story and air apologies five times daily for three consecutive days.

Failure to comply, the DSS warned, would leave them with no choice but to seek legal redress.

The controversy has sparked discussions on press freedom and the responsibilities of media organizations in reporting sensitive security matters.
