Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has ordered a thorough investigation into the tragic accident that claimed five lives and injured several others during an Easter Monday procession in Billiri Local Government Area.
The incident occurred when a truck transporting grains from Adamawa to Gombe reportedly lost its brakes and rammed into a group of Christian faithful participating in a religious march.
Governor Yahaya, in a statement by his Director-General of Press Affairs, Isma’ila Uba Misilli, described the event as “heartbreaking and regrettable,” offering condolences to the bereaved families and wishing the injured a swift recovery.
“This is a dark and painful moment for the families affected and for all of us as a people,” the governor stated.
He directed relevant authorities to probe the incident immediately and ensure that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
