Ebonyi PDP’s Onu Backs Odefa Expulsion

Silas Joseph Onu, former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State and the party’s 2024 senatorial candidate, has applauded the expulsion of the party’s South East National Vice Chairman, Mr. Ali Odefa.

The Federal High Court in Abakaliki on Tuesday upheld the decision to expel Odefa, confirming that his ward executive committee was right to remove him over alleged anti-party activities. The expulsion followed his earlier suspension from the party.

Reacting to the court ruling, Onu expressed satisfaction, saying Odefa’s actions had long undermined the unity and progress of the PDP in the region. According to Onu, the decision to remove him was necessary for the party’s survival and credibility in the South East.

Onu also accused Odefa of secretly working for the governor of Oyo State, allegedly protecting the Oyo governor’s interests in the South East ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

He added that Odefa’s loyalty to external forces rather than to the party’s collective interest made his expulsion inevitable. Onu urged PDP leaders in the zone to focus on rebuilding trust and closing ranks ahead of future elections.

With Odefa’s removal affirmed by the court, Onu believes the PDP in the South East now has an opportunity to reposition itself and restore unity among its members.
